Scaling Remote Work Force Securely
SCALING REMOTE WORK FORCE SECURELY
Leveraging the power of on-demand cloud scalability to drive growth, sharing resources to stay within budget.
1 VM -> 10 Employees
Enabling sharing of resources (e.g. 1 VM between 10 employees) and increasing productivity.
30%
Achieve a cost savings of 30 percent when compared with traditional desktops.
From 100 to 2500 VMs
Scaled from 100 VMs to 2500 in matter of weeks.
Overview
A large professional services provider had to quickly and securely enable remote work for thousands of employees due to COVID-19 impacts. They weighed their technology options and opted for a cloud-based solution after evaluating top-performing cloud providers in the region. They chose a remote work solution that could expand very fast, and had an experienced partner to complete the project quickly. The cloud solution delivered secure access for end-users because of its integration with Azure Active Directory for account sign-in, and the security came native with the cloud provider’s products. The cloud provider moved to allocate hundreds of virtual machines to its data centre to meet the high demand for its services across the country.
Challenge
- Swiftly and securely enabling remote work for thousands of employees. Rapidly adding thousands of users to a remote work solution that could expand quickly.
- Establishing secure connections between the network and home offices of thousands of employees, data protection and security during implementation.
- Scaling cloud environment to support the increasing number of virtual machines required for remote work.
- Meeting the need for low latency to avoid frustrating lag on customer calls.
- Provisioning and tailoring new virtual machines to meet the unique needs of each customer and ensure secure connections while not compromising on cost.
Solution
- Adoption of a cloud-based solution to enable remote work for over 6,000 employees by spinning up new virtual machines in Microsoft Azure to support remote workers with tailored virtual machines for each customer and secure connections between remote contact centre employees and onsite hardware.
- Selection of Microsoft Azure as the cloud provider due to scalability, security, and delivery speed of Windows Virtual Desktop with Windows 10 multi-session.
- Implementation of built-in intelligent security of Windows Virtual Desktop, which delivers secure access for end-users through Azure Active Directory for account sign-in.
- Adoption of Windows 10 multi-session to grant up to 10 employees concurrent access to company services through the same virtual machine and set up a dedicated express route for contact centre voice and data to minimise potential for latency.
Results
- Successfully enabled remote work for more than 6,000 contact centre employees in a matter of weeks.
- Windows Virtual Desktop with Windows 10 multi-session was found to be a scalable, secure, and easy-to-deploy solution for remote work. It enabled as many as 10 employees concurrent access to company services through the same virtual machine, resulting in significant cost savings.
- The company’s cloud environment scaled from using 100 to more than 2,500 virtual machines in just a few weeks.
- The built-in intelligent security of Windows Virtual Desktop made it easy to ensure the protection of data.
- The Windows Virtual Desktop solution saved over 30% compared to accessing a Windows environment through other cloud providers.
